Preparing for a Loan Appointment

There are several things you can do to prepare for a loan appointment, especially if you are hoping to walk away with financing that day.

What should I bring to the appointment?

Loan Type
Required Documents/Information
Auto/Rec Vehicle
Loan
– Previous month’s worth of paystubs
– Details about the vehicle you want to purchase (if you’ve already found one)
Personal Loan – Previous month’s worth of paystubs
Credit Card – Previous month’s worth of paystubs
Home/Land/HELOC/
Home Improvement
Loan
– Previous month’s worth of paystubs
– Previous year’s W2 (if employed by a company) or tax return (if self-employed
– Details about the property (if you already have one in mind or are refinancing)

What will happen at the appointment?

First, the loan officer will ask for your…

      • Name
      • Birth date
      • Social security number
      • Contact information (address, phone number, email, etc)
      • Employment details (employer, job position, salary, etc)

Then, you will need to provide consent for the loan officer to run your credit history.
They will review your credit report and calculate your debt-to-income (DTI) ratio.

If you already know what vehicle/property you want, they will review the information you provided to them about it.
Based on your credit score/history, DTI, and the asset you are looking to purchase (if applicable), they will explain what kind of loan terms they can offer you.

If you are applying for an auto loan, recreational vehicle loan, personal loan, or credit card and enter your appointment prepared, you have a higher chance of being able to complete your financing same-day. For home/land loans, even refinances, it takes a little longer depending on your loan program, the type of loan, and the property in question.
