Become a member and own a share of Breakwater Federal Credit Union!

Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school, or regularly conducts business in Houghton, Keweenaw, or Baraga County. 

Personal Accounts

Types of Ownership

  • Youth Saver (ages 0-12)
  • Teen Saver (ages 13-17)
  • Regular (ages 18-54)
  • Prestige (ages 55+)

Identification Requirements

  • Valid photo ID (for minors who do not have a photo ID, we require copies of both their birth certificate and social security card)
  • SSN (if applicable)
  • Proof of address (if different from the one, or if not listed, on your ID)
  • $25 share deposit for Regular/Prestige OR $5 share deposit for Youth Saver/Teen Saver

Organization Accounts

Whether you are a student organization or a local club, you can open an account at the BFCU.

Identification Requirements

  • Proof of EIN number (such as a letter from the IRS)
  • Meeting minutes which specifically state that an account can be opened at BFCU and who is to be authorized on the account. We have a meeting minutes template available for those who need it.
  • Authorized signer(s) must provide a valid photo ID, SSN (if applicable), and proof of address (if different from the one, or if not listed, on IDs)
  • $25 share deposit
 

Business Accounts

What kind of business accounts does BFCU open?

  • Individual Doing-Business-As (DBAs)
  • Sole Proprietorship

Note: We do not currently open accounts for Partnership DBAs, Limited Liability Companies (LLCs), or Corporations (INCs). If you have any questions about these account types, you can contact Member Services.
